vm-join BigBlueButton is an open source web conferencing system for sharing of slides, voice (using Asterisk), chat, video, and desktops. It enables companies offering Asterisk services to increase revenues by adding integrated web conferencing services.

The BigBlueButton client, written in Flash, runs equally well on Mac, PC, and Unix computers.  If your customers can watch YouTube videos, they can run BigBlueButton.   The client can be localized into different languages.

For the viewer, BigBlueButton supports

    * Joining the asterisk-based voice conference from within the client (using a built-in SIP phone)
    * Chat with other users (including private chat)
    * See the presenter’s slide and cursor
    * Share a video stream (webcam) with other participants

For the presenter, BigBlueButton supports

    * Uploading slides (PDF or any office document supported by Open Office)
    * Muting or ejecting listeners from the voice conference
    * Sharing their desktop (yes, even on Linux)

To share their desktop, the presenter needs to run a Java applet.  Viewers need only run the BigBlueButton client to view the presenter’s desktop.

BigBlueButton is built using the following open source components: asterisk, red5, apache MQ, tomcat 6, pdf2swf, nginx, open office, mysql, grails, ghostscript, xuggler, and imagemagick.

BigBlueButton server provides an API that let’s third-party applications create, join, and monitor meeting.
